System requirements
Windows
- Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
- Virtualization turned on in your computer’s BIOS/UEFI. It’s on in most computers. If it isn’t, Eggie tells you at the very start of setup.
- Permission to approve one administrator prompt. Eggie uses it to turn on WSL, the Windows feature it runs on. If WSL was never on, Windows asks you to restart once.
- At least 10 GB free on drive C:. The kitchen lives there and grows as you add projects.
You don’t need to install anything else first. The installer adds WebView2 if it’s missing.
Mac
- Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) or Intel. There’s a separate download for each.
- macOS 13 Ventura or newer.
- Your Mac password, to install the package.
- At least 10 GB free. During setup Eggie downloads the tool that runs the kitchen and a Linux image, then builds the kitchen from them.
You don’t need Homebrew or anything else. Eggie downloads what it needs during setup.
Both Windows and Mac
- More disk space as you go. Every project adds its own tools, database and uploaded files. If you plan several projects, keep 20 GB or more free.
- Internet, all the time. Setup downloads the kitchen, and your projects’ addresses (
*.local.eggie.space) need internet to open. Your coding agent needs it anyway.
Cloud
A cloud kitchen needs nothing installed and no disk space on your computer. You need a browser.
Everywhere
- A coding agent with an account: Claude Code, Codex or Cursor.
