Troubleshooting

Start with Doctor at the bottom of the Eggie home screen. It checks your computer and tells you what’s missing. If you write to us, send what it shows.

Setup stops at the first step

Usually virtualization is turned off in your computer’s BIOS/UEFI. Eggie shows a message saying so.

  1. Restart the computer and open BIOS/UEFI setup (often F2, F10, Del or Esc right after power on).
  2. Find Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) or AMD SVM / AMD-V and turn it on.
  3. Save, restart, and open Eggie again.

Setup stopped halfway

Open Eggie again — setup picks up where it stopped. Steps that already finished are skipped. If it keeps failing at the same step, run Doctor and send us what it shows.

Windows asked me to restart

That’s expected the first time, when Eggie turns on WSL. After you sign back in, setup carries on by itself.

The kitchen says Running, but nothing opens (Windows)

This sometimes happens after the computer wakes from sleep. Open Windows PowerShell and run:

wsl --terminate eggie-vm

Then open Eggie again. If that doesn’t help, run wsl --shutdown — note that it also stops your other WSL distros and Docker Desktop.

The console says my session expired

Go back to the Eggie app and click Open Eggie. That signs the console in again.

A project won’t start

  • The first start can take a few minutes while Eggie downloads what the project needs. Give it time.
  • If it says Needs set-up, click Set it up and give your agent the prompt.
  • Otherwise ask your agent: “The project won’t start in Eggie. Check the logs and fix it.”

The address doesn’t open

  • Check the project says Running.
  • Project addresses work only on the computer where Eggie runs. On another device, use a public link.

My agent can’t find the kitchen

  • Make sure Eggie is open and says The kitchen is open.
  • Codex on Windows: eggie-vm must be your default WSL distro. See Codex.
  • Go through the agent’s steps again in Eggie → Agents.

Some tools inside the kitchen try to open a browser to sign in. They can’t, so they print a link instead. Copy the link into your browser.

“exec format error” on a Mac

The project uses a piece of software that has no version for Apple Silicon. Ask your agent: “This fails with exec format error. Switch to images that support arm64.”

Still stuck?

Write to us with what you did, what you saw, and the output of Doctor.
